21 JUNE 2019
Your Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
Thank you for accepting my credentials as United Nations Resident Coordinator in Zambia and by extension for the great opportunity to serve the Republic of Zambia.
I will begin, on behalf of the Secretary General of the United Nations, His Excellency Antonio Guterres, and the UN country team in Zambia, by thanking you and your Government for the excellent relationship the UN System has enjoyed in this country since independence.
I commend the Government of the Republic of Zambia for the investment in health, education, and social protection for the vulnerable. I also wish to congratulate the Government and the people of Zambia for the exemplary role in combating HIV, TB and Malaria with exemplary good practices. And I am happy to note that the 7NDP has fully mainstreamed the SDGs.
I commend you Your Excellency, the Government and people of Zambia for maintaining political stability in this country as well as for playing a sustained role in promoting peace in the Southern African region. I note that Zambia has enjoyed peace since independence.
Allow me to briefly talk about the on-going reform of the UN System which started on 31 May 2018. The UN reforms aim to bring about a repositioned UN development system with a stronger, better-defined collective identity as a trusted, reliable, accountable and effective partner to countries for achieving the 2030 Agenda.
With these remarks, I wish, once again to thank you Your Excellency, and the Zambian Government for accepting me as UN Resident Coordinator. During my tenure, I intend to bring a stronger UN Country Team with all UN agencies Delivering as One around joint programmes to support the development priorities of the Government and people of Zambia.
I THANK YOU.
Your Excellency I have the distinct honour to present the Letter of Recall of my predecessor and my Letter of Credence as UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Zambia
